It should boost the performance once applied efficiently.  A couple of years ago
I observed a version of KnightCap progress from a 1500 patzer to a strong master
player in about a year or less.  It was FICS I believe and the handle was Wimp
Knight.  I had a discussion with one of the authors then, probably Baxter, but
my memory is hazy now regarding the details.  He explained some of the TD
learning points to me and I got really excited.  Very nice of Dan to be trying
to implement TD in Exchess (a fine program on its own:)
