A cut off here please ! :) Your explanation is right. That is the heart of the alphabeta pruning system, explained in simple words. If you think about it, a human player does the same. When you see that a move can be refuted, you just stop spending time on it because you don't care to see if it can be refuted even more and be proven to be even worse, isn't it? Christophe
