When I first wrote TSCP, I had no idea it would be so popular. It's been a year since I released the first version and I'm still getting one or two e-mails a week thanking me for it. A number of people have written graphical user interfaces for it, a few people have written XBoard interfaces for it, and one person fixed it to search with multiple processors!! I'm happy that it's been so useful, but every time I hear about it, I always think about the evaluation function. You see, I didn't spend that much time (maybe half an hour) on that part of the program. It's missing several essential terms, and a few of the terms it does have are implemented wrong. This afternoon I rewrote the function. Now it has all the important terms and calculates them correctly. It isn't state-of-the-art, but it is solid and it's something I'm not embarassed about. So, if you're interested, the version number is now 1.1 and it's on my web site: http://home.earthlink.net/~tkerriga (it's on the computer chess page) Cheers, Tom
