It really depends on what you are primarily going to be using the computer for.
If it is going to be for chess analysis, a video hardware guru coworker of mine
says that you might get anywhere between 10-20% less performance from the memory
due to what the video display is going to suck up. How badly this will affect a
chess engine overall probably depends on several factors.

If you are going to be running anything even remotely 3D intensive (games, for
example), then the hit will be much more noticeable.

The rest of the hardware looks very solid and reasonably priced. Compaq tends to
be pretty good stuff if you can get past all of the crap that they stick on the
hard drive before you ever touch it.
