I have no interest in ever entering a tournament because I know that there are people who are better than me and always will be better than me. I was the same way about road racing. I used to participate when I thought I might win, but I would never enter one now. If I enter a contest, it will be because (1) it's convenient and (2) I think I have a real shot at winning and (3) it does not interfere with anything important. >I also wanna find out which >machine GNU (which version, too) will run on. Hope you don't mind my finding out >about the pansy which I deem about 2350 blitz on a PII-300. I never play blitz. I don't even like blitz. I add blitz games to my database because good moves might be stumbled upon, but in general, I think blitz, lightning and the rest of the super short time controls are lousy chess. The version of GNU will be the one that ships with Winboard 4.0 (I can do some version checking if needed, but it will be the "stock" version from Tim Mann's ftp site. I'll try my hand at it this evening. I will run on a PII 300 Mhz. The memory settings will be GNU defaults, whatever those are.
