Upgrades for your dedicated m/c could be

Hi Clive
i am in 100% complete agreement
the former modular concept has a long history of expensive upgrades, with little
if any real improvement to the playing strength
yes, after perhaps 3 or more upgrades you would get a nice boost in Elo from the
first module, but by then you have paid for 3 modules and well over $1500-$2000.
this only resulted in costing the buyer the same as a new computer.

the idea of a module with a serial port built in to be connected to the PC and
then upgrades downloaded right into the module via the Internet is indeed an
exciting idea

of course this would cover any upgrades due to changes in the program itself and
probably not be workable for changes in hardware(better processor's,etc.)
but it would go a long way in helping the current situation in the Dedicated
Chess Computer market which is basically now a joke

Best Regards
Steve

I am sure plenty of people would pay a reasonable
