Those things are practically irrelevant.

Look at when Microsoft proposes a standard.  Everyone follows it.  If "Joes
Software" had supported ODBC, nobody would have written drivers for it, despite
the value returned from that standard.

Innovations rarely become practical, no matter how excellent, unless a giant
decides that they want to try it.

If there is a complete vacuum, the innovation might become successful (see, for
instance Winboard).  But if the innovation has not had sufficient time to become
established, it will be washed away.

If people want to play FRC now, the thing to do is to use the SMK API.
IMO-YMMV.
