Go up one level in this thread
Dear Giancarlo You probably have seen some former threads where i was terribly blamed... But this time I will go with you and _completely_ with Cozzy and Diepeveen. A new gui is simply, clearly, a good thing (IF it is really neutral for external progs). Anthony hesitates between UCI and WB2. As far as zappa 2.0 is compatible with anything else than a proprietary communication protocol I will be happy. I think UCI is now more universal than WB2 but there are convertors so wb2 will be good for me if they choose it. Most users will try to have it working under Chessbase GUI. With UCI it's more easy than with WB but why not WB2 if they prefer. I am not sure FritzGUI will be more fair with a WB2 engine than with a UCI one... For me it is not that important because I never run engine tournaments under Fritz GUI (I do not trust it!!). But having Zappa working as an analysing engine in the chessbase database will surely be a pleasure and for that purpose I will need it to be either WB or UCI compatible. If they decide to go in a completely isolated way this will be suicidal for them in commercial terms, and it will be a big missed opportunity for all of us CC freaks. But if this could be the first public appearance of a credible interface , mixed with a first class engine, and open to external engines in their interface AND to external testing of their own engine through WB2 and/or UCI compatibility THAN this will be a true landmark after all these years of "hegemony" as you tell them. I hope it will be so. Marc
