Giancarlo, this is a message you wrote with the wind that went through New Orleans. Zappa, to be right on the point, sure is the WCCC champion, because it won many games against other engines. But real chess addicts use Fritz for their analyses. And this is why such people ask for the possibility to play Zappa under Fritz gui. Perhaps it is really helping the analysis. What you are saying is wrong. It is NOT because chessplayers support ChessBase that they concentrate on Fritz. Already Ed Schroeder hat to relaize that his Rebel was not state of the art because you simply couldn't integrate variations and subvariations into the notation. For chessplayers it is important to have the complex notation in Fritz. And if you want to present them your own programs, Sjeng or Zappa or Diep, you should do what others like Junior and Shredder did, and also Crafty: you must allow UCI mode in Fritz for your progs. OTHERWISE you have the bad situation you described. ChessBase leading company and all others unimportant. CM is no contradiction because of its big distribution. Active chessplayers do all use Fritz as a matter of fact. And now back to your bashing of all the members here. Zappa - please get real - did NOT prove until now that it would bring something for active chessplayers. Ruffian was also strong, but no commercial success. Winning an engine tournament is no signal of usability for chessplayers. Fritz will be used although it didn't participate at all. CM is also sold with success although it does never compete. But again, real chessplayers use ChessBase and Fritz. Because it's state of the art. I am pretty sure that Vincent cannot re-invent all the features of a gui, chessplayers want to have. He can copy. Just like Arena who is also nothing but a copy. Copy in a general sense. I'm NOT saying that I have seen a violation of copyright or such. Best regards, Rolf
