Checks in qsearch is of course also a factor, but not the only one. Glaurung is much slower than Gothmog in WAC141. Last time I checked, Glaurung needed more than ten times more nodes than Gothmog to find Qxf4 (although of course ten times 13,367 is still not much on modern hardware). If I remove Botvinnik-Markoff extensions from Gothmog, the difference disappears. Tord
