I have pity on all the commercial authors trying to reach to this level. Actually I don't think it makes that much difference if a strong program comes with a program-source to compare, to develop new ideas you would still have to play through games, to see what a program does in practice and then try to come up with a method of your own to emulate that, or counter that, for your own program. It makes no sense in 95% of the cases to just take some routine in a public domain program, try to decipher what it does and then try that out in your own code. It will probably do more harm than good that way. Talking about Fritz 9 for instance, the progress from Frans Morsch represents lots and lots of days and months (years?) of hard work and testing, I do not doubt that for a moment. But...apart from some doubts about the future of commercial programs, -how many of the programmers can keep this heavy workload up? -it it is for us just also very exciting to see coming along such an exciting engine! Not just Rybka, but there have been many already this year! Rounding up the past year already regards, Eelco
