Subject: May as well post my 2 cents about RYBKA

I just ran a 5'+1sec match vs Shredder 9 UCI. Shredder had it's own opening
book and RYBKA palyed without an opening book (32 bit version). Match was on my
AMD 64x2-3800. Each engine was assigned a different cpu and pondering on.
RYBKA won by a score of +30 =10 -10 (+147 Elo). That's an impressive score
since it started out with only 0.5 points in the first 4 games. I haven't
looked much at the games but the score is certainly impressive for an engine
with no opening book and no tablebases. I wish for the tablebase support for
the simple reason when the endgame is a draw both engines will play the 50 moves
in a few seconds. Simply it saves time. Also the lack of an opening book cost
precious seconds in the opening. It's like giving the opponent a time advantage
which is fairly large in blitz games.
Thanks to the programmer. A great gift to all!
Jim
