Probably it's essential, if one is going to use them as aids for analysis, to have as many 'opinions' as possible, not just rely on one or two. Also, playing the role of 'arbiter' can only increase one's own 'chess sense' -- I hope! I believe that 'fly-by-wire' aircraft use a number of programs (from different sources) and a 'program arbiter' analyzes the results -- it would be interesting to see a 'composite' chess engine (incorporating the top programs)! In fact, Ed seems to be doing something along these lines with Chess Tiger and Rebel -- is this right? All best Francis
