I think most are in assembler language, with C / C++ being popular for
developing the GUI side of things. I know Fortran was used in the early 80's for
machines such as Chaos, Cray Blitz and some early Fidelity experimental
programs, but I think pure assembler is prefered nowadays. I believe the Ikarus
engine is somewhat unique amongst the better engines today, in that it is
written in Delphi.
