Shredder's approach is the one that everyone else is going to copy.

It is a commerical program with a lot of success.

Unless there were some dominating superiority of the other approach, we can
assume that the successful commercial model is what will be copied (since it is
published).

Consider the success of UCI (also pioneered by SMK).
